Open Call: Curera ett filmprogram

KnowHow söker konstnärer som vill fördjupa sin praktik genom samarbete med Filmform. I grupper om tre kommer ni utifrån Filmforms unika arkiv ta fram ett curerat filmprogram under handledning. I slutet av projektperioden presenteras filmprogrammet för en publik. Om du inte bor i Stockholm så erbjuds du boende under perioderna på plats.

Open Call: Syfte och mål

Ett viktigt syfte med projektet är att olika erfarenheter möts. Du kommer att vidga ditt nätverk genom samarbete med andra konstnärer och med Filmforms anställda. Du får kunskap om vad det innebär att curera ett filmprogram utifrån ett arkiv där både historiska och samtida uttryck inom experimentfilm och videokonst ingår. Du kommer att få inblick i tekniska förutsättningar för att visa film för publik. Målet är att få erfarenhet av att curera ett filmprogram samt förbereda och genomföra en publik programkväll med visning och samtal.

Ansökningsprocess

Projektets utgångspunkt är det gemensamma lärandet. Du förväntas samarbeta med två andra konstnärer i en gemensam undersökning av filmarkivet samt planering och genomförande av en programkväll. En jury sätter samman tre konstnärer för detta projekt men du kan också själv föreslå en eller två konstnärer som du vill samarbeta med i din ansökan. Arbetet sker under handledning av professionella medarbetare på Filmform.

Konstnärligt slutresultat

Det curatoriella arbetet ska resultera i ett filmprogram på cirka en timme som är curerat utifrån ett tema och som presenteras inför publik. Visningen sätts i ett sammanhang i form av en kort programtext och ett samtal i ett format som ni själva väljer i dialog med handledare.

Tid och plats för genomförande

Projektet ska genomföras 15 september – 27 november, inklusive en publik filmvisning.

Inledningsvis och i slutet av projektet krävs närvaro på plats på Filmform. Däremellan sker handledning och självständigt arbete på distans.

Budget

Arvodet är 20 000 kr/deltagare. I vissa fall kan projektet bekosta resekostnader. Ange i din ansökan om det är aktuellt.

Vem kan söka

Ansökan är öppen för yrkesverksamma konstnärer som tillhör KnowHows målgrupp, det vill säga konstnärer som är nya i Sverige. Du ska ha relevant konsthögskoleutbildning eller dokumenterad yrkesverksamhet. Det är ett plus om du har arbetat med film i något format i ditt eget konstnärskap men det är inte ett krav.

Filmform, grundat 1950, är den enda organisationen av sitt slag i Sverige och verkar för att främja, sprida och bevara svensk experimentfilm och videokonst.

OPEN CALL: Curating a Film Program

Open Call

Within the framework of the project KnowHow, we are seeking artists who wish to deepen their practice through a collaboration with Filmform and together with two other artists. Based on Filmform’s unique archive, and under mentorship, you will develop a curated film program that will be presented during a public event at the end of the project period. For those who do not live in Stockholm or the surrounding area, we can offer accommodation for two weeks.

Purpose and Goals

A key objective of the project is the meeting of diverse experiences. You will expand your network by collaborating with another artist and with Filmform’s staff. You will gain knowledge of what it means to curate a film program from an archive that includes both historical and contemporary expressions of experimental film and video art. You will also gain insight into the technical requirements for screening films for an audience. The goal is to gain experience in curating a film program, as well as preparing and executing a public event featuring a screening and a discussion.

Application Process

The starting point of the project is mutual learning. You are expected to collaborate with two other artists in a joint exploration of the film archive, as well as in the planning and execution of a public event. A jury will put together three artists in one group for this project, but you are also welcome to suggest one or two artists you would like to collaborate with in your application. The work will take place under the guidance of professional staff members at Filmform.

Artistic Outcome

The curatorial work will result in a one-hour film program curated around a specific theme and presented to a public audience. The screening will be contextualized through a short program text and a discussion, in a format of your choice, chosen in dialogue with your mentor.

Time and Place

The project will run from September 15 to November 27, including a public film screening.

On-site presence at Filmform is required at the beginning and at the end of the project. In between, mentorship sessions and independent work will be conducted online.

Budget

The fee is 20,000 SEK per participant. In certain cases, the project can cover travel expenses. Please indicate in your application if this is required.

Who Can Apply?

The application is open to professional artists who belong to KnowHow’s target group. You should have a relevant degree from an art academy or documented professional experience. It is an advantage if you have worked with film in some format within your own practice, but it is not a requirement.

1. brief description of your work and a statement of motivation explaining why you are applying to this Open Call.

2. Attach a CV and images with brief descriptions.

3. Write a motivation statement of no more than 1000 characters.
